We cannot forever be pretenders

why do we have to pretend:
that nothing is miserably wrong in this beloved land of ours
that earning a living is the ultimate aim in this life;
when our very homes offer us no more peace of the soul
when leaders are hordes which trampled the masses
yes, why pretend that everything is perfectly sane?

why pretend not to know:
that SPR is the obvious instrument of those in power
that the integrity of our fundamental institutions is of suspect
that power is just an instrument to feed leaders' greed
why pretend everything is perfectly perfect
when monsters are manning our institutions?

how many Kugans, Memalis, Teohs and the likes do we need
before we stop pretending
that life is just about earning a decent living?

alas,
we cannot and should not, forever pretend
that we are just mere pretenders
trying to earn a decent living!
