We need leaders, not just (mere) politicians
Let us not dwell on definitions, let us look at the state of affairs surrounding us; for instance the type and kind amongst us who head our various institutions, especially ministries. These are the very individuals whom we have picked, chosen and voted to decide for us. Decisions made which would affect our livelihood, our future and that of our beloved future generations. And we are talking about the (mis)management of our limited and yet depleting resources. Scare resources like petroleum, minerals and others which are not replenish-able.
And yet here we are, we have heads (I prefer not to use the term ‘leaders’) of organisations who are driven by none other than self interest and the desire to quench the unquenchable economics of personal greed.
For years we have been conned, cheated and short-changed into believing that these very people are acting on behalf of our interests, the general masses ― the rakyat.
Sad but yet true, for years we have been electing licensed ‘xxxxs’ who have plundered and are plundering our nation in order to feed their insatiable greed.
And yet you and I choose to celebrate and honour these heads with prestigious labels of all bapas, excluding of course, …. The latest antic of the so-called MPM by one of such dignitaries is a classic case of pure rude but yet raw emotional manipulation. If you still remember, in the 60s, someone in our midst started with a dilemma in order to purge and eliminate one of its kinds and enter the arena.
That is being recycled, half a century later, of course in other forms in order to remain relevant.
Funny, many still fall for this guy. Many feel that some one is indeed a statesman.
II)
That part of history is for us to contemplate, learn and relearn. Now, it is time for us look forward and ― beyond. And as part of the general masses, we have to educate ourselves and those close to us, to at least appreciate the real need for affirmative action in the coming PRU13: This country needs leaders who would pass that certain minimum standard of quality cum integrity.
We just cannot afford, any more to have just mere politicians as heads of our institutions.
