PAS tells DAP not to blame hudud for Dyana’s defeat in Teluk Intan

KOTA BAHARU, June 4:

The PAS-led Kelantan government said that the DAP’s defeat in the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election had nothing to do with the issue of PAS’ hudud.

Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said if the proposed implementation of hudud in Kelantan was a major factor in the defeat last Saturday, then it would have far-reaching consequences on the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary by-election on May 25.

“The DAP won Bukit Gelugor and the result was hardly affected by hudud. So, the defeat in Teluk Intan had nothing to do with the hudud that we want to implement,” he told reporters after opening the Kelantan Trade Seminar at the Kelantan Trade Centre here today.

Mohd Amar, who is also Kelantan PAS deputy commissioner I, was commenting on Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo’s statement that the hudud issue led to DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud’s defeat at the hands of Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Mah Siew Keong by a 238-vote majority.

Urging the DAP not to shift the blame to others, Mohd Amar said the defeat in Teluk Intan was due to Chinese voters protesting against the DAP for fielding a Malay candidate who was also an outsider.

“The Chinese voters (in Teluk Intan) want a Chinese candidate,” he added.
