Seruan pejuang silam
Kita petik pandangan John L. Esposito dalam bukunya, “Unholy War Terror In The Name of Islam” Oxford University Press, New York, 2002:
“Dawah has two meanings: an invitation to non-Muslims to convert to Islam and the call to those who were born Muslim to be better Muslims. The Brotherhood and the Jamaat emphasized the latter, calling on Muslims to renew their faith and practice in order to bring about a social revolution, the re-Islamization of the individual and society.” (halaman 53)
Pada para yang lain, kita temui:
“The jihad (struggle) that became a central concept in describing the process of self-transformation and political activism, both against European colonialism and later against corrupt, un-Islamic Muslim states, was primarily one of reform, not violent revolution. Yet, it did include the defense of the Muslim community and of Islam against colonisation and injustice...” (halaman 54)

Di sini, kita dapat memahami kenapa idea-idea Hasan Al-Bana, Mawdudi dan Syed Qutb misalnya, tidak begitu disenangi, malah dimusuhi oleh regime-regime yang korup lagi zalim dan yang amat kuat nafsunya menindas rakyatnya.
Alangkah baiknya jika bahan-bahan bacaan yang memaparkan perjuangan, pemikiran, cabaran dan penderaan yang terpaksa mereka hadapi itu, dijadikan bahan bacaan, rujukan agar perjuangan dalam menegakkan kebenaran itu dapat diteliti, dikaji, dibahas dengan kritis lagi mendalam oleh para pelajar kita.
Semuga perjuangan para pemikir lampau ini benar-benar dapat dicontohi oleh anak-anak kita ― para pelajar di pelbagai pusat pengajian tinggi.
